Music at Saint
Philip's
We are blessed by a singing congregation, a devoted choir,
and a beautiful pipe organ. During the school year
(first Sunday after Labor Day through Father's Day), there is music at
the 10:00 AM Sunday service, following Rite II, but not
typically at the 8:00 AM Sunday service. For the remaining Sundays, approximately the summer
months, there is a single 9:00 AM Sunday service, with music. There
are
several additional services during the year that include music, such as
the Christmas Eve service, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday.
On Easter Sunday, there is music at the 8:00 AM service too,
following Rite I.
Your comments, suggestions, and musical contributions are very welcome.
Let's talk, or please feel free to telephone, email,
or write.
Music requests are invited too, for example for specific
hymns, choir anthems, or vocal or instrumental pieces.
Sometimes requests are more general, for example an interest
in a composer, period, or genre. I do receive requests,
suggestions, and sometimes even long lists of favorites, for which I am grateful.
Join us for Choir and Croissants breakfast
8:30 AM on January 6, in
the Parish Hall. Then, if you like, rehearse with the choir from
9:00AM to 9:45AM. If you enjoyed that, then, if you
like, process and sing with the choir for the rest of the morning
(we'll help you).
Choir and Croissants takes place on the
first Sunday of each month, through June.
Paul Utgoff presented a harpsichord recital on May 18th, 2007, in the church (announcement, program).
A new stop, called a Twelfth has been added to our pipe organ.
We had a dedication and a special organ piece at our
September 23rd 10AM worship service.
