Spiritual Minutes

What is a Spiritual Minute and Why Do We Have It?

As explained in the Spiritual Minute main page for Saint Philip's, a Spiritual Minute is a moment in our worship service when one of our members, one of us, shares a moment of connection with God. This story is for the benefit of everyone, so that each of us can understand ever more clearly how the connection between God and the parishoner sharing their story occurs, and how that connection was recognized.

We at Saint Philip's have learned that people become closer to God in several ways. One of the most fundamental aspects of faith is the extent to which a person recognizes God acting in our present lives, not just hearing about how God acts or has acted in the scriptures.  The ability to hear, see, and feel God develops from hearing stories, not only from the scriptures, but from today’s witnesses, from you and from me.  As one becomes more capable of understanding God’s language, personal experience helps faith to grow and blossom.  Stories from daily lives, from members of our church family and from our own families bearing witness, from you, are central to our mission of helping individuals to connect to God, to be restored to God and to each other, in faith.  Those who attend worship service seek this spiritual nourishment, not once, not occasionally, but every time.
